Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Meatballs:

  1. 500g ground beef or a mixture of ground beef and pork
  2. 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  3. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  4. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  5. 1/4 cup milk
  6. 1 egg
  7. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  8. 1 teaspoon salt
  9. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  10. 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  11. 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

For the Sauce:

  1. 700ml of marinara sauce or homemade tomato sauce

For the Assembly:

  1. 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  2. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  3. Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 190°C.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients – ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, parsley, milk, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix the ingredients until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into meatballs, about 2.5 to 3.8 cm in diameter. You should be able to make approximately 20 meatballs.
  • Place the meatballs in an oven-safe dish, pour over the marinara sauce and top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake the meatballs for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with grated parmesan, fresh basil and parsley.
