Description

Knowing exactly what’s in your chicken taco seasoning, so it’s a healthier and more natural choice for you and your family to enjoy. How great is that? Whip up some tacos and enjoy the flavours you created!

This recipe makes enough seasoning for up to two 500g batches of meat. (and a little bit extra for a soup or veggies.)

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 2 tablespoons paprika
  2. 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  3. 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to desired spiciness)
  4. 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  5. 1 tablespoon onion powder
  6. 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  7. 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  8. 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)
  9. 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  10. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine all the spices and mix thoroughly until well blended.
  2. Taste the seasoning mix and adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or less cayenne pepper, according to your preference.
  3. Store the taco seasoning in an airtight container or a spice jar with a tight-fitting lid.

Notes

How to use the taco seasoning:

  1. Brown your choice of ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey) in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  2. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked meat. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of seasoning per 500g or pound of meat, adjusting according to your taste preference.
  3. Pour in 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water into the skillet and stir to coat the meat with the seasoning evenly. Allow it to simmer for a few minutes until the meat absorbs the flavours and the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. To create a slightly thicker sauce, mix 2 teaspoon of cornflour with 1/2 – 3/4 cup of cold water, and then add it to the meat. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  5. Your taco filling is now ready to be used in tortillas or taco shells! Top with your favourite taco toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, or any other desired toppings.
